Since the Redneck has been laid off….

….it hasn’t been easy.
I haven’t talked about it much, but with his surgery in August and now, his unexpected “time off”, we’re going to be struggling. The great thing about the Redneck and I is that we’ve been through tough times before. I found a song that reminds me that the time we have can be a good thing.

She needs me now but I can’t seem find the time.
Got a new job now in the unemployment line.
And we don’t how
How we got into this mess. Is it God’s test.
Someone help us cause we’re doing our best.
Trying to make it work but man, these times are hard.

But we’re going to start by..

Drinking old cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night.
Sayin’ things we haven’t for a while

We’re smilin’ but we’re close to tears
Even after all these years
We’ve just now got the feeling that we’re meeting
For the first time….

  1. The Redneck lost his job? That really sucks. I hope your unemployment rate isn’t as bad as it is where I live. It’s allegedly 14% but if you factor in those not looking for jobs and/or working part-time because of hours cut it’s over 25%.

He’s luckier than most guys I know. For all of Meg Whitman’s bullshit ads, most of the union workers I know have had very little work.
I know lots of guys who have been out of work for a year or more.
And thanks to Ahnold, many of the government workers in our union (Cal Trans) have been forced to take furlough days, essentially a cut in pay, and a cut in benefits (including that rich pension she was after).
So I guess I feel like we’ve been lucky to have made it this far.

Hopefully things will get better soon. You’re lucky to have each other. đŸ™‚

  4. Sitting here on a furlough day…..(well, I guess technically it’s a “forced unpaid holiday.”)

I’m so sorry, Jen! You have a great attitude about it, though, and hopefully things will start looking up soon. What a year you guys have had.

  5. So sorry to hear this Jen. Mr. Nina lost his job in August. Very unexpected. We were very lucky. He started a new job 3 states away the beginning of Nov. I’ll get to move when the house sells. And though I’d like to feel sorry for myself being alone in the willy wags of Maine, I can’t really complain because he at least has a job.

    Good luck to you guys.
