Where the hell is the First Amendment? Just Sayin’

To BP and the U.S. Government
The Redneck told me you were limiting access to the gulf region and I didn’t believe you until I found THIS. Seriously? Now, BP, I expect this of you. You’re an oil company. Lying is part of your extensive portfolio. But our government? Really? Where was all this shit when Katrina was going on? And thank God it wasn’t! But the current administration and its supporters have routinely claimed that George Bush “lied”, that he “played havoc with the constitution”. Yet, that president did NOT block access to the ravaged areas in New Orleans and those images are burned in the brains of voters today. That president is called a “Nazi” by his detractors. That president is called “a dictator”. Isn’t that funny. Maybe American voters have forgotten that Hitler’s platform when he first began his rise to power wasn’t conservative or violent. Maybe they’ve forgotten that Adolf Hitler began his career as a socialist, a man concerned about the welfare of his fellow German. Unless, of course, that German happened to be rich, gay or Jewish. Take note folks. The federal government today has done NOTHING for the GLTB community. Nothing. The federal government today is using censorship to keep public opinion from turning on them. This isn’t new. I’m not saying that Obama is another Hitler. I don’t think, if he was, he would last long. Regardless of world opinion, our country is strong and vibrant. I don’t believe for a minute that any dictator would be able to do here what Hitler did in Germany. I do believe we must be vigilant about the constitution. Words contain power. The words written by those denied access to the gulf will echo even further than those that may have been written about what was seen. This is a misstep that may create bigger issues. The American people will bend, but only so far. Do not be deceived. Voters have shown that they balk at change that shakes the firm foundation of the constitution.

What a blast. I love your trees, your blue jays, your awesome setting, your helpful staff, your fantastic swimming hole. I can’t wait to go again next year.
Absolutely gorgeous.

And after a long hard weekend of camping, the dirt-faced okie boys are wiped out.

Good call on the government and BP. I’m fed up with both of them and if they tell me to wear a pink triangle I’ll gladly tell them where they can wear it.

Actually, Mussolini was a socialist in his youth, but not Hitler. It is true that the early platform was not violent, but the Party’s actions were. They got into street fights with their rivals, mostly the communist groups.

They’re reporting “good news” on television tonight. Let’s hope it holds. Literally.

Ah but remember Erik that Hitler’s party in the beginning was the National Socialist party–a political group that was considered “liberal” compared to the more conservative group supported by the allies who helped prop up Germany after WWI.
Initially, Hitler was successful by appealing to the working class and the poor. His STATED policies were very familiar. His practices were more dictatorial.
One of the things that fascinates me about many rising dictators is their ability to appeal to the mass population. And they seem to do this by running on the platform of “rescuing” people from the uncaring, conservative opposition. The problem is that the platform has NOTHING to do with what they intend to do once they grasp power in their hands.
I’m so glad the new cap is working in the gulf. This whole mess was the last thing this region needed.
