Thirteen Things I Love About The Redneck

It’s my anniversary. Today, I’ve been married to the Redneck for ten years. They’ve been an easy ten years too. Oh, things outside us have been crazy, but it’s been better facing it with him than anyone else.
1. He loves the outdoors
2. He works very, very hard
Too hard IMHO.
3. He’s one of the few people who can surprise me
With something I really want. Like Robert Cray tickets and a room at the Blue Lake Casino.
4. He has a great sense of humor
He makes me laugh all the time.
5. He doesn’t care that I’m not a great housekeeper
6. He’s all about family
7. He knows all the best places in Humboldt County
From Georges Folly Camp, Shanty Creek and the Dinsmore store to Fresh Freeze, Clendenans and Flood Plain Produce, the Redneck knows every nook and cranny where we live.
8. He writes poetry
And there’s not too many Rednecks I could say that about.
9. He can cook
Really, really well. Let’s just say before he and I met, I HATED fish. But the way he cooks it? I LOVE it.
10. He Spends lots of time with the boys
Even when he’s tired and needs to rest.
11. He Calls every single night
Without fail. You know, there’s not many people who will be that consistent. It’s the only way we manage to hang on while he’s out of town.
12. He’s Great with dogs
Which is good since we have a pack of ’em.
13. He’s the best partner
There’s not much that’s come up that we haven’t dealt with together.
I’m looking forward to the next ten years.

Jen, I began reading your blog one day when you were describing your sons and your husband. These are always my favorite posts. Maybe because your family sounds like mine (though the thought of my husband writing poetry boggles my mind.) Hugs and Congratulations on finding a great guy.

I’m always wondering if I’m oversharing about my family. After all, it wasn’t THEIR choice that I started writing and blogging. But they’re such a essential part of who I am and how I write, that I couldn’t do anything else.
It boggles my mind that he writes poetry too. And good stuff.

  7. Awesome. I’m so happy y’all are happy 🙂

  8. Happy anniversary, Jen. As I read your list I was nodding. It sounds like we both have great men.

I think it’s awesome how you’re 10 years in and still like newlyweds. I also love that you call him The Redneck.
