So, the post I linked to Monday about how conservatives don’t get irony got me thinking. Was I liberal? Or Conservative? I tend to poke fun at both. LOL. Anyway, I found a totally scientific quiz (*snirk*) that confirmed my worst fears. I’m totally middle of the road. LOL.

Interestesting quiz. I’m a little more conservative than you are.
That surprises me, Shawna! But the break down is fascinating. Of course, some of those questions didn’t have answers I would choose so I chose the closest one.
That’s what got me. When it doubt, I tend to lean toward the conservative side especially in fiscal matters and personal responsibilty.

I didn’t even finish the quiz. In most cases, the only choice was between two awful, terrible solutions/stances. What does that make me, then? Fed up?

LOL, Gramps. Yeah, I think some of the answers were a choice between two evils. But that’s what we face at the polls every election.

Well, let me just say that my irony post was supposed to be ironic, but that’s the irony of the whole thing.
As for this test, I have a hard time with it because all of the questions had a straight up one way or another, and there were a few questions where I wouldn’t have chosen either option and additional choices are available.
I’m 90 percent liberal under the test broken down as follows:
Social Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
This test is a bit longer, and I have some criticisms about the wording, but it’s the best I’ve found. More important than merely looking at left and right it puts you on a cartesian chart which looks at

I have a few problems. I don’t know whether the “compulsory classroom attendance” is intended to account for regulated homeschooling. I have no idea what relevance the “stay cheerful when you have problems” question is to political ideology.

Now I agree that it’s an “advantage” in terms of efficiency of government, but by acknowledging the fact does that make me more authoritarian when in fact I think the advantage is heavily outweighed by other considerations?
Is there a political component to the acceptance of abstract art? I think it has more to do with education and perhaps economic class than politics.

Any political quiz which penalizes you on libertarian points for opposing abortion is a sham. You can not get more unlibertarian than taking innocent life.
Well, I don’t know that anyone is “penalized” for anything. Setting aside the abortion issue in particular for the moment, not everything “libertarian” is good. The liberty to rape, pillage, and murder isn’t good. Even most capital L libertarians accept that much government regulation on their lives.
It’s not a value judgment. It’s a question of how you view the role of the state.
