Thirteen Work In Progress

The most difficult thing for me to do, as a writer, is STAY ON TASK. Writing is a self motivating thing. Distraction is everywhere. I’ve started many manuscripts. Some will eventually be finished and submitted. Many won’t.
Here’s a list of the ones that are on my laptop. (My desktop has more.)

1. LOSING COMMAND
This is the fourth book in the Command Series. It’s an erotic science fiction m/m with some alien loving on the side. This one is aimed, of course, for Liquid Silver Books and I hope to have it finished by November. It’s about half done.

2. EYE OF THE STORM
Third book in the Storm series in the Men of Alaska line at Whiskey Creek Press/Torrid. This romantic suspense is the long awaited Kevin Henderson story and the final chapter in his story. I’m about half way through this book and I hope to have it finished by January.

3. LEGEND OF FOOLS
I almost didn’t list this one. It’s actually finished and submitted to two agents and an editor, but I’m not arrogant enough to think it’s perfect. I’m sure it will go through some changes before it’s final version. It’s still a “work in progress” even though I’m leaving it alone for the moment. This one is a romantic suspense about the search for Big Foot that turns into murder.

5. FIRES OF PASSION
This is a romantic fantasy that I actually had published, but I never thought I got it quite right. When the line it was in ended, I obtained my rights back and now it sits in my wip file. It needs some work to get down to the nitty gritty of the story. I still want to write that story though. It’s got it all–a reluctant heroine with tremendous power, a hero with guilt to expunge, a shade with regret and a villain with no heart. I love the concept.

6. EMBERS OF PASSION
This is the prequel I started for “Fires of Passion”. Five heroes set out to find a talisman to save humanity from destruction. One will break a heart. One will sacrifice their life. One will betray the others. One will go mad. One will die at the hand of the one he loves. That one has an awesome beginning and I know I’ll get it finished at some point.

7. SHADES OF PASSION
Remember that shade with regret in “Fires”? This is the story of that shade. Surprisingly, this one didn’t have a very happy ending for the main character. Another hundred years of aching loneliness awaits her at the end of this tale. But there are two who DO get a HEA. I’ve got a beginning and an end for this one, but no middle. LOL.

8. THE PAIN SHE NEEDS
This is one that will probably never be finished. It’s a short story about a married couple once heavily involved in the BDSM lifestyle, but he backs away-too busy, too important to continue the commitment to it. He and his wife drift apart, their marriage slipping away. She finally leaves him, unable to communicate with him or understand him. She goes back to David Peter’s parties to seek the pain she craves. Her husband realizes what he’s lost but can he get her back or will she find what she needs from another domm? Stephanie was an interesting heroine, but I think she might be a little to damaged to be an erotic romance heroine. I could be wrong.

9. THE WHIP SHE WIELDS
This is David’s story. Featured in “The Mask She Wears” and “The Secret She Keeps”, David Peters is a dom who has helped many to find their inner sexual desires. His own, however, are no one else’s business. This story has gone wrong somehow and I have to figure out why. I think I know what happens, but when I write it, the thing goes wonky. I’ve got something messed up. I’ve written and deleted about 5K twice. I’ve put it on the back burner until I can work it out.

10. EARTH COMMAND
This is the prequel to “Taking Command” set in Earth twenty years earlier. It features a murder in the Virtual Fantasy Room that will lead a Tribunal Elite soldier assigned to investigate on the hunt for an alien conspiracy. There isn’t much to this one yet and I’m not sure if I’ll get to this one or not. We’ll see.

11. LEGEND OF GOLD
Sequel to “Legend of Fools”, it features two characters from “Legends” and the search for a missing cache of gold hidden in the 1800’s.

12. DISCARDED
A Historical I never intended to write, it’s set in Regency England. Of course. The opening scene came to me and would not go away. A couple, driven apart by tragedy and scandal, are both slated to marry for society’s appeasement rather than the dictates of their hearts. But a mother with regret and murder serve to bring these two back together. He is bitter. She is reluctant. The villain seeks to end their lives before they can discover any happiness. Yeah. I don’t know if I can write this one.

13. DANGEROUS EXCHANGE
A Novella written for the new Sterling Line anthology at Liquid Silver Books, this story is set in the wilds of Africa. Marnie Coleman is an international courier with a dangerous package and revenge on her mind. Todd Atchison is a United Nations security officer sent to escort Ms. Coleman out of the country. Manipulated by Marnie’s criminal uncle, they take a harrowing trip across the Sudan and get caught up in a rebel uprising and each other. She thinks he might be a killer and he thinks she might be a thief. But none of that matters when they touch. This one is out to a critique partner for more tweaking. I’m hoping to submit this one soon.

There you go. Some you’ll see again. Some you won’t. You should see the wip on my desktop. *shudders*

Wow… that’s a lot of works in progress. You have great self-discipline to do so many at once. lol. Good luck with all of them! πŸ™‚

  3. Holy Schnickies woman! Color me green with envy. Those are some awesome stories. I have no doubt you’ll get them out into the world.

  4. Jen

I REALLY have to keep a short leash on my brain otherwise I’d be all over the place. I only keep one or two on the front burner at any given time. Right now, it’s “Losing Command” and “Eye of the Storm”.

  5. Hey thanks for sharing an insight.

I’m too chicken to share the WIPs on my computer.

  6. Even if most of it is back burnered, that’s a lot to have going at one time.

  7. Wowzers! How can you juggle ’em all?

  8. Jen

LOL Amy! I’ll bet it’s a fascinating list.
And Alice, for the most part, they’re quiet and don’t bug me.
Tempest, I often drop the ball on a couple of them. LOL.

  9. Fascinating! They’re all so different. I hope you find out what’s gone wonky in #9–I’ve only read The Mask She Wears in that series so far, but I can see that I’ll be begging for David’s story.

  10. They sound great!

    *hugs*

    My TT is at http://tinyurl.com/4zejcp

  11. ‘Embers of Passion’ sounds like its my kind of book – can’t wait till I can read it! All of these sound amazing – plus the tragic Shade one. I loves me some tragedy.

  12. WOW! My brain would be SO fried. LOL. Good luck with them all! πŸ˜€ They sound awesome.

  13. At least you’re not alone in having multiple stories bouncing around in your head – count me in that group, too!

Some of these look rather interesting, so I’ll keep an eye out for when you get ’em done, okay?

    Ciao!
    Happy TT!

Thanks guys. David’s story is SO important to me, but I haven’t found the right feel for him. He’s been difficult to capture.
And “Embers” has got one of my favorite opening scenes. The problem is that some of the content in the story is VERY dark. I’m not sure where I’m going to go with it.
I’ve been very focused on finishing the series books before I get into the newer stuff.

  15. You have an amazing talent Jen! Just go for it.

  16. I have multiple stories underway, too, although you didn’t hear me admit it. I MUST focus!!

  17. Jen

    Thanks Claudia!
    I didn’t hear a thing, Shelley. Not a thing.

  18. I don’t care–I genuflect to your imagination and nastah verve. Woo!

  19. jodi

lol–you have a lot of work on your desktop. Too bad DE is a novella. I think it’d make a good full.

  20. “romantic suspense about the search for Big Foot that turns into murder”

Now that’s a genre that has been written into the ground. What is there to say about romantic Big Foot search murders that hasn’t already been written?

  21. You know you can call me anytime to help brainstorm on the historical. πŸ™‚

  22. You are so much more like me than I ever imagined. LOL I’ll make a deal with you, I’ll finish my Regency if you finish yours. I’m 75K words into mine, including a prelude where the heroine discovers two men making love. Meh. Maybe we can help each other out with those stories…

  23. woo hoo — it’s NOT just me πŸ™‚
I’m in good company with my writer ADD!!
