I’m sometimes lucky enough to get a peak at some awesome books before they’re available to everyone else. It’s the advantage of being an author with author friends. One of these is “Hot Water” by Lex Valentine. Here’s some reasons to go an buy this awesome book.
1. Colin
If you know Lex’s work, you know she can write the sexiest, most realistic heroes. Colin is no different. He’s alpha…but not. I love the way he plays tug-of-war with the heroine…
2. Eden
Kick ass and totally vulnerable, some of the most poignant emotion is from Eden’s point of view. Her character is complex and layered. Her development in this story is awesome.
3. Hot Dragon Shifting Sex
Complete with fire, heat and lots and lots of biting. Mmmmmm.
4. Hot Vampire love
Don’t think Eden’s Dragon gets all the play here. Colin is a sexy vamp with an ability to make it all seem so natural. He’s no emo goth boy looking for kicks. He’s totally yummy, sexy he man with all the right moves.
5. The Dragon Mark
of Eden’s clan. Lex’s worldbuilding with this is VERY cool.
6. Up Against The Wall Sex
Ooohhh yeah. Okay, maybe that’s just me. But WHOA was that hot.
7. No “Mate” cop out
Lex doesn’t go for the easy “I scented him and “knew” he/she was my mate”. She took her time and, when the mate thing came up, I was primed and ready for it. I love how she did that.
8. The Gut Wrenching Emotion
Strong feelings are well portrayed here. Eden’s connection to her family and herself is explored with a light and delicate hand. Lex is brilliant at this. I FELT what Eden felt in one of the scenes with the most impact. Well done, Lex!
9. Corey
OMG!!! He was so perfectly done that you HAD to know Lex knew someone like him. As a secondary, he was intriguing and had me wanting more.
10. The Humor
Okay, maybe it’s just me, but I do like some humor laced in my romance. Lex does it subtlety. My favorite lines? “Come and get it, bite boy”, “I’m wet, how fast can you get here?”, “Bossman, you have a big dick. All the girlies want to call you back. And all the slutty boys wish you’d call.” “Uh, there’s a dragon in your yard.” “Well, in that case, can you open the door so I can make a mad naked dash for it?”
11. There’s Handcuffs involved
Which led to another favorite line. “Shut up and cuff me.” LOL.
12. It’s a Series
Started with “Shifting Winds” also available today at Pink Petal Books.
13. Did I mention the handcuffs?
This book is HOT HOT HOT without sacrificing one iota of characterization and story. I highly recommend it.

*sniffs* And here I thought your play by play in Yahoo was just the most fantastic thing since Marcus Schenkenberg was born! This is the bestest thing I’ve ever read. Better than a review! You are sooooo awesome, Jen. No wonder I named my kick ass red monster fighting heroine after you!

Lex has been writing for a long time. I knew she’d be good to go once she made that big leap into publishing.

I love it when you mention something and then revisit it later:
‘There’s Handcuffs involved’
‘Did I mention the handcuffs?’
You never fail to get me with that…
March 5, 2009 at 7:13 pm
That sounds awesome.

I must admit Julia that, though handcuffs are discussed, Lex makes me use my imagination for them. I’m just hoping she won’t make me wait too long.
Are you getting this Lex? I want to actually SEE Colin restrained. It would be tooooooo sexy man.
March 5, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Sounds like a good read!

I guess in Fire Season I need to figure out how Holden walks in to find that his sister has cuffed Colin to something…. and if I get cracking… you’ll see Fire Season the first Thursday in July…

I have been reading Lex for awhile now and she will make you cry, fan yourself and snort your soda all in one sitting.
That was a great review and exactly perfect for her style. You can never name just one thing you liked in her writing. It is always a few things that lead to another few and before you know it you are looking for more.
I am sort of bias though so go try the story.
