Whiskey Wednesday Review–”Mayan Secrets” by Ciar Cullen
This book had EVERYTHING!!! A journal of a long dead archaeologist with mysterious clues to a blood filled ritual, a drop dead gorgeous renegade, a beautiful woman with a brilliant mind and the Mexican landscape for a backdrop. “Mayan Secrets” is a tremendous read, filled with dynamic, believable characters and a stupendous plot.
Troya Twamley is a smart, funny, independent archaeologist with a weakness for dead explorers. She’s an expert on Catherwood, a nineteenth century explorer whose illustrations bring history to life. All of her knowledge can’t compare to the precious item that Tyre “Indiana” Rasmussen has in his possession. Catherwood’s journal.
Tyre is a renegade, a quirky, unorthodox scientist with a keen sense to nose out mysteries long left dead. He’s come to find Dr. Troya Twamley to decipher the secrets within the journal. What he doesn’t expect is a sexy, beautiful woman who matches every passion he ever thought about indulging.
He’s a “one night stand” guy who charms women and she’s a controlled, tightly wound personality with passion hidden beneath. It sounds like an old idea, but Ciar Cullens puts a unique twist on it. Together, Troya and Tyre seek out ancient Mayan secrets and discover something completely out of the realm of the study of dead cultures.
This is a hot romance, a terrific action story and a tight, well executed plot. Ms. Cullens drew me in and wouldn’t let me go. I read this story in one sitting, staying up until midnight to read it.
It’s brilliant, fascinating and satisfying in all the ways that matter. So much so that with my next little windfall, I’m buying the prequel “Mayan Nights”. I’m also going to bug the author to write the story of Babylonia (”Babs”), Tyre’s twin sister, Danny and even Shooter. I want them ALL to have their own “happily ever after”.
And once you read it, I think you will too.

I think the best thing about the book is the dialogue. It’s snappy and very, very clever. I really enjoyed it.

I’ve always been interested in Mayan culture. I took a course on it, so I think this would be a great book to read. Congratulations, Ciar!

Thanks Julia!!! I don’t do it as often as I’d like, but I do try and review books I read.
I know, as an author, it’s nice to hear someone liked a book I’ve written.
