There’s no way to get around it. Being involved in publishing requires a certain amount of insanity. It often feels like I’m the wave crashing against a huge cement wall. I gain momentum and SPLASH I hit that wall and scatter all over the place.
Makes a pretty picture, but isn’t so much fun when you’re the wave.
Continuing my “brilliant” analogy (quit laughing) I’ll go on to say that eventually the wave DOES break down the cement wall…….eons later. And yes, it feels THAT way too. I’m making my little cracks and digs in the world of publishing. Sometimes I wonder (*see title of post*) if I’ll feel that amazing feeling of accomplishment when the wall comes down. Will it be a spiritual experience such as Joshua must have felt as Jericho’s thick walls crumbled? Or will it be an exuberant experience like when the blanket between Clark Gable and HIS ultimate goal came down in “It Happened One Night”. Of course, there is the point of why worry about this at all until the wall is crumbling.
That wall is solid and seemingly impenetrable at times. It blocks millions of wannabe writers every year. Some of us give up, fade away, move on with our lives. Still others beat against the wall over and over with apparently little result. But some just keep eroding that wall away and find holes and cracks to slide through. We keep going. We do what “waves” do and continue to flow.
The trick to this process is remembering the one rule of erosion. Time is the one thing that doesn’t fail to wear down any mountain.
And if none of that made sense, either of these may explain it.

I’m part of that wave too, have been for over 30 years, and I’m wondering if I’m going to run out of time.

Alice, no matter what happens to us, our words endure one way or another.
It’s almost like my book is a “drop in the ocean” and even if it’s not the drop that crumbles the wall, it MAY join with other drops.
In other words, you influence and someone else carries on the fight.

I can’t imagine how hard it is to break into publishing.
But I am enjoying your book that I downloaded. If I had a real reader (and not just my laptop) I’d have finished it long ago I’m sure.

Hugs Jen… You can make a difference, whether you’re the drop or the whole wave. Hold my hand and we’ll be two larger, more stubborn drops, because I’m not fading away. Well, not in the way that counts! LOL

Hang in there. We all enjoy your writing!

The Stubborn Drop Divas!!! That’s us, Diana.
Oh I’m so glad you’re enjoying my book, Tricia.
Thanks Kym.

I’ve never thought of that way… but certainly felt that way! And you’re right, Jen, all rocks eventually erode. Keep on keepin’ on!

I love the normal analogy. And what I’ve learned the things that are worth doing are never easy, so find the one your willing to be stubborn about.

I think that is excellent advice Melissa blue.

You too Nina.
And Melissa, I think that’s a brilliant way to put it.
*waves* Hey Lothian!

I’m with ya, Jen. The washing machine is the only thing that seems to even know the word “normal” in our house. Life happens, and yes, persistence is definitely a key to being successful along with just being stubborn enough to survive.

There is a Normal setting on a washing machine??
)
Okay, I was just here for the Happy Bunny sticker, but I stayed for the clever analogies . . . . hang in there, look at the literary horizons you’ve opened for me! heheh

Well, Kaige, after some of the stuff I know you’ve gone through, persistence is definitely one of your assets.
And Steve, LOL!!! I’ve opened up literary horizons? That bunny sticker is one of my favorites.

Hang in there Jen. Your writing is great! Now about the blue bunny….I have him on a tee shirt except my shirt says, “I see stupid people”. For some strange reason, it cracks people up when they look at the bunny….

Sorry Jen, that was me up above. I’m creating another blog and had my login mixed up….

No worries, Opilia. I would have known actually because of MySpace.
Let me know where your new blog is.

I prefer to look at it as though I’m banging my head against ’said wall’. Works better for my own personality
Hon, you have erroded that wall down to near nothing and will be through it before I regain conciousness from my last head butt against my wall. It’s only a matter of time for you!
